“Tell the story of the mountain you climbed. Your words could become a page in someone else’s survival guide.”
This insight from Morgan Harper Nichols serves as a valuable reminder of the influence that sharing experiences can have on others.
Sharing Experiences to Support Advocacy and Empower Action
In December, I reflected on a memorable occasion from my wedding rehearsal—my father’s words, which continue to resonate with me. This, along with our family’s journey navigating dementia, has shaped my advocacy at Hope for Dementia, an organization focused on dementia prevention. The post reached over 2,600 individuals, with more than 80 engaging and accessing complimentary resources designed to empower people to reduce their risk of dementia.
Commitment to Empathetic Leadership
Personal experiences have been integral to my professional development. As a leader in the health and insurance sectors and an advocate for seniors’ well-being, I was privileged to be elected to the Board of Directors at the Cummings Centre. Collaborating with sixteen dedicated professionals who strive to improve seniors’ quality of life represents a significant advancement in my dedication to public service.
Fostering Meaningful Dialogue for Change
In March, I introduced the phrase “Tokenized and ambushed” to highlight common challenges with superficial Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. This sparked important discussions and enabled me to share practical strategies for individuals and organizations committed to authentic DEI progress.
Additionally, by presenting recommendations on cultural integration, I highlighted the book *Un musulman à la cabane à sucre* by Khalil Guliwala—a concise and insightful work that underscores the role of literature in promoting cross-cultural understanding.
Key Takeaways from 2025
- Personal experience is a significant driver of impactful advocacy.
- Exemplary leadership requires openness in sharing personal journeys and a commitment to serving with empathy.
- Small, consistent actions—such as sharing resources, recommending literature, and prompting challenging conversations—can promote introspection and inspire meaningful change.
