“Who knew?” is a question I often ask myself whenever I am pleasantly surprised by an unexpected event.
As an undergraduate student in Language & Linguistic Studies at the University of the West Indies, I knew that I deeply desired to give back “something” to my beloved alma mater someday in the future.
That day came this summer, when my bilingual book “Pastels & Prose” was accepted in the West Indies & Special Collections of the University’s Main Library.
Donating the book to the library will support the learning of the #frenchlanguage to students from the English-speaking West Indies. Students will also be exposed to the varied experiences and perspectives of a person from the West Indies, now living in Canada.
I now define myself as a #business#leader , #volunteer and an artist.
However, in my early years as a student and a young #professional in Montréal, I didn’t know that I would develop my artistic talent firstly as a hobby, which I began to take seriously enough to monetize and then publish a bilingual coffee table book, which I have promoted and sold using my training in marketing.
I rarely post about my art projects on my blog theBIGpicturecamille. I use this platform to speak about #leadership topics and causes I care about as a #board member and volunteer.
➡️ But I am sharing this to encourage members of my followers to explore all their talents and find creative and innovative ways to combine their professional training, volunteer experience and hobbies to #payitforward and to #giveback .
Who knows where your efforts will take you and the impact that you can have?
See the BIG picture. Focus on what’s important.
